, but now we have agreement that these are going to be good-paying jobs because they're going to be union jobs, inside the arena as well as outside the arena. this is important. many of us often talk about labor peace, but i am, i think in these days, talking more about labor confidence and labor happiness because labor peace often says there's a dispute going on. here we're going way beyond dispute. we're actually making some assurances that our people who work the jobs in and outside of the arena will get the respect that they deserve. this is oftentimes -- if we lay that out early, and i think this is what the warriors are doing, they're breeding confidence in our labor force. not only do you have peace, but you can have confidence that you can have families around you supported by the jobs that we're creating here because they're going to be union-paying jobs. so, according to the fiscal feasibility report that is now on file officially with our city, we have indicated that there will be over 4300 direct jobs that will be created city-wide as a result of the what r warriors arena bein

can get your teachers union to agree to stagger the school day. some teachers come in early and you have study hall, some come in later and you have sports after school. there is a bunch of ways to address education. great teachers more than parent involvement or anything, you put a great teacher in front of a kid, they work miracles. i think our goal is to say that we're going to fix education. we're working statewide to begin to implement. we do not want them filling out multiple choice tests but you ve to measure the effectiveness of a teacher. our goal is sitting down with the union and having them at the table to say, how do you help us figure out, i was a geologist. i thought i would be a great geologist. i got laid off. i would still be a geologist. it turned out i was not that good a geologist. not too much fun to say but the facts are the facts. i was 20 times better running restaurants that i was a geologist. i had a much happier -- i tell a lot of my friends by not being willing to allow natural turnover, competition and success, it you are condemning 15 or 25% of the tea

for the department? >> well, what this agreement involves is an agreement between the police union, the city and professors attorneys who filed this original civil rights lawsuit. what they've decided on is creating a compliance director. now, this would be a quasi mayor of oakland in a sense in that he gets to -- he or she would have the power to fire the police chief with the court approval. they would have the power to direct the city administrators. those are two things currently only the mayor has. it's limited in scope in that it would only effect the reform tasks that are incomplete for the police department. the city had been very concerned that this potential receiver, or federal receiver, would have oversight over the entire police department. so all -- so all three sides involved in this are very happy. >> and this whole situation stems from the riders case. remind us, again, what that was. that was a police brutality case. >> yeah. there were some officers who were accused of framing suspects and in the wake of that, there was millions of dollars paid out in civil lawsuits, but a
